LEED, Green Building & Sustainable Solutions
Vandal Stop Products is committed to supporting sustainable building practices and providing durable solutions that contribute to environmentally responsible projects, including those pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
We believe in manufacturing products that not only withstand demanding environments but also align with the principles of sustainability. This commitment is reflected in our material choices, manufacturing processes, and the extended lifespan of our products, reducing the need for frequent replacements and associated environmental impact.
How Vandal Stop Products Can Contribute to LEED Certification
Our products can contribute to achieving LEED credits in several key areas. While specific contributions depend on the project, product, and LEED rating system version, here are common ways our offerings align with LEED objectives:
Materials and Resources (MR Credits)
- Recycled Content: Stainless steel, our primary material, typically contains a significant percentage of post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled content. The exact percentage can vary by supplier and batch, but it is an inherent characteristic of stainless steel production. We can provide general information on typical recycled content ranges upon request for specific documentation needs.
- Durability & Long Lifespan: A core tenet of sustainable design is longevity. Vandal Stop products are engineered for extreme durability, significantly extending their service life compared to less robust alternatives. This reduces material consumption, waste, and the environmental impact associated with manufacturing, transporting, and installing replacement products over the building's lifecycle. This can contribute to points related to Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction.
- Regional Materials (Potentially): As all our products are manufactured in the USA, projects located within a certain radius of our manufacturing facility may be eligible for points under the Regional Materials credit. Please contact us with your project location for evaluation.
- Construction and Demolition Waste Management: The durability of our products means less frequent replacement and, consequently, less contribution to demolition waste streams.
Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ Credits)
- Low-Emitting Materials (Potentially): Stainless steel is inherently a low-emitting material, with no VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). Our products generally do not contain paints, coatings, or adhesives that would be significant sources of indoor air contaminants. For products with minor non-metallic components (e.g., some lock mechanisms, minor plastic parts in dispensers), we can provide information as available.
Key Sustainable Attributes of Our Products
- Stainless Steel – A Sustainable Choice:
- Highly Recyclable: Stainless steel is 100% recyclable without loss of quality. It can be recycled repeatedly, making it a true closed-loop material.
- Corrosion Resistance: Its natural corrosion resistance means no need for protective coatings that might contain harmful substances or require reapplication.
- Hygienic & Easy to Clean: The non-porous surface of stainless steel is easy to clean and sanitize, often with less aggressive chemicals, contributing to a healthier indoor environment.
- Made in the USA: Manufacturing in the USA supports local economies and can reduce transportation-related emissions for domestic projects compared to importing finished goods from overseas.
- Designed for Longevity: Our focus on vandal resistance and heavy-duty construction directly translates to a longer product life, minimizing resource depletion and waste.
Requesting LEED Documentation
We understand the importance of accurate documentation for LEED certification. If your project requires specific information regarding recycled content, manufacturing location, or material attributes for LEED submittals, please contact our sales or customer service team. Provide details about the specific products and LEED credits you are targeting, and we will do our best to supply relevant available information.
While we provide information on how our products can contribute, the final determination of LEED credit achievement rests with the Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).
