The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum sign surrounded by flowers.

Located in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is a local treasure. Housed in the beautifully restored 1903 El Paso County Courthouse, the museum offers a fascinating look at the region's history—and best of all, admission is free. You can find more details on their official website.

Historic Charm, Modern Comfort

The historic clock tower of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. When you enter a building that is over 120 years old, you usually lower your expectations for the plumbing. Historic courthouses are notorious for cramped, outdated facilities. However, the Pioneers Museum has done an incredible job renovating their restrooms.

While the upper floors feature the original, stunning District Courtroom (Division 1) with its rich wood paneling and gold leaf accents, the restrooms downstairs have been fully modernized. It is the perfect blend of preserving history while providing modern convenience.

Spotless and Stylish

Wide view of the modern, grey-tiled restroom interior. The restrooms feature a sleek, monochromatic design with grey subway tiles and slate-colored floors. It feels more like a high-end hotel bathroom than a free public museum facility.

  • Design: The grey subway tile wainscoting is a timeless choice that looks clean and sharp. The partitions are sturdy and privacy-focused.
  • Cleanliness: During my visit, the facility was immaculate. The floors were spotless, and the fixtures were gleaming.
  • Accessibility: The ADA stalls are spacious with proper grab bars, and the layout allows for easy navigation.
  • Amenities: The restroom includes a modern baby changing station and ample mirrors.

The Final Verdict: A Hidden Gem Downtown

The historic District Courtroom Division 1 inside the museum. If you are walking around downtown Colorado Springs and need a clean restroom, this is arguably the best option available. Not only do you get to see a beautiful historic landmark, but you also get access to facilities that are safe, clean, and well-designed.

I'm giving this a resounding 5-flush rating. It sets the standard for how historic buildings should handle modern amenities.
