Just down the road from Lake Sabrina in the stunning Bishop Creek Canyon, you'll find the Upper Intake 2 Campground. This small, popular campground sits right along the creek and is a favorite for fishermen and fall color chasers. It's a rustic Forest Service site, but the location is unbeatable. During my visit, the main permanent restroom building—an older concrete block structure—was locked up and closed. It's unclear if this was for seasonal reasons or maintenance. Fortunately, the campground managers had provided a row of portable restrooms (porta-potties) to handle the needs of campers.
Temporary Solutions That Work
Generally, seeing a "Closed" sign on the main restroom is a bad omen. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the temporary facilities. While nobody prefers a plastic portable toilet over a permanent building, these units were clearly being serviced regularly.

Key Features of the Restroom
Since the main vault toilet was unavailable, this review focuses on the portable replacements.
- Cleanliness: For portable toilets in a busy campground, these were surprisingly clean. The interiors were tidy, there was no trash on the floors, and they didn't have the overwhelming odor often associated with these units.
- Functionality: They were fully stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer, which is often hit-or-miss with temporary rentals.
- Availability: There were multiple units available, ensuring that even with the main building closed, there wasn't a long wait.
- Vandalism-Free: The units were in good repair with no graffiti on the interior or exterior.

The Final Verdict: A Solid Backup Plan
While it's disappointing to find the main facilities closed, the campground management deserves credit for providing a decent alternative. These portable restrooms were clean, stocked, and functional.
I'm giving this a 3-flush rating. It's hard to give a higher score to a porta-potty setup, but for what they were, they were well-maintained and saved the day.
