The Humboldt Avenue Skate Park in Chico, California, has reopened following a three-day closure aimed at removing offensive and threatening graffiti. According to Scott Schumann, the Parks and Facilities Director for the Chico Area Recreation District (CARD), this closure was prompted by the presence of inappropriate messages. Notably, this marks the fifth time this year that CARD has temporarily shut down the park for graffiti removal. While graffiti is permitted in designated areas such as bathroom facilities and the art wall, the park is only closed for repainting when graffiti appears on skating surfaces or contains offensive or violent content.

Cawthra Park Secondary School in Mississauga has taken the step of locking most of its washrooms during class hours due to ongoing vandalism issues. This decision, implemented just over a week ago, has left students with limited access to restroom facilities during the school day. Signs were posted on washroom doors around November 16th, leading to significant line-ups and inconvenience for students rushing between classes. The signs explain that the closure is a response to frequent washroom vandalism and the need for supervision. While some washrooms remain open during class time and after school hours, the majority are locked until just before school starts and during lunch. The Peel District School Board defended this decision as a safety measure to ensure a secure and equitable learning environment for students. However, some students believe that alternative solutions should be explored, as this arrangement inconveniences the school's 1,200 students and may compromise their sense

A viral TikTok trend known as the "devious lick challenge" has created widespread issues for school districts nationwide, including those in the Brazos Valley. The challenge encourages users to share mischievous acts, with school bathrooms becoming a prominent target. Caldwell High School, along with other local districts like Bryan and College Station ISDs, has been impacted by this trend, resulting in damaged facilities and disrupted school routines. Principal Justin Turner acknowledges that it not only poses safety concerns but also affects instructional time as students must travel to different restrooms. To counter the negative trend, Caldwell High is promoting positive actions through initiatives like "Caught You Doing Something Good" and implementing measures to combat vandalism. Turner emphasizes the importance of reporting incidents to administration while maintaining student confidentiality to address these challenges effectively.

Murray County High School recently addressed an online photo showing toilet paper dispensers placed outside bathroom stalls instead of inside. The school district attributed this change to severe vandalism in the boys' restrooms, which incurred a cost of approximately $20,000 over the past few years. Administrators consulted with the MCHS Student Council for student input and communicated the change to all students the previous school year. Vandalism included tearing dispensers off walls, clogging toilets with entire rolls of toilet paper, and leaving defecation on top of rolls on the floor. The district is now closely monitoring restrooms to create a safer and more functional learning environment. North Murray High School reportedly took similar action in response to restroom vandalism last year by removing toilet paper dispensers from stalls.

Shelbourne Park in Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, witnessed a disheartening act of vandalism, as captured by a neighbor's surveillance camera around 4 a.m. on a recent Tuesday. The footage reveals a group actively defacing the park with spray paint. The aftermath was not just limited to the park's gazebo and sidewalks but extended to cars and homes in the vicinity. Disturbingly, the graffiti carried anti-Semitic, anti-LGBTQ+, and anti-American messages. The timing of this incident, just before the community's significant Halloween parade, added to the gravity of the situation. Community officials and residents are now grappling with the emotional and financial repercussions of this act, with graffiti removal expected to take several days. Los Gatos High School (LGHS) has been grappling with a surge in bathroom vandalism. The boys' restrooms have been particularly affected, with incidents of sodas, soup, and juice being thrown on walls, ceilings, and floors. One notable event involved a Big Gulp from 7-Eleven being flung onto the ceiling, damaging ceiling tiles. Other acts include urinating in sinks and on floors, emptying toilet paper dispensers, and clogging toilets with excessive paper and other objects. Shockingly, human feces have been found spread on floors, walls, and toilet seats. The custodial staff often has to close vandalized bathrooms for repairs, sometimes for extended periods. The school has taken measures to address the issue, including the release of the "Stall Seat Journal" newsletter, urging students to respect public facilities.

Miamisburg authorities are seeking information regarding the recent vandalism of a public restroom at Sunflower Park, especially during the city's bicentennial celebrations. The restroom facilities experienced significant damage, including a demolished sink, overturned trash cans, and flipped picnic tables. Notably, this isn't the first occurrence; the restroom had been reopened for just under two weeks after repairs from a previous vandalism incident. The repeated acts have caused the city to consider the installation of security cameras in the area. Miamisburg Parks & Facilities Superintendent, Tony Carpenter, estimated the damage costs to be between $800 to $1,500 and expressed his frustration over the recurring issue.
