A WWII Submarine is about as cramped of an environment you fill find for a bathroom. This submarine is just off of Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. This bathroom is strictly utilitarian.

Liberty Ships were an amazing aspect of WWII. Built faster than the Germans could sink them, they helped to win the war. Looking at the bathroom it is clear that space was at a premium.

Porta-Pottys generally speaking are the lowest on the totem pole when it comes to bathroom experiences. They tend to be hot, smelly, dirty and just overall not very pleasant!

Outhouses are one of those necessary evils when camping in group campgrounds. Outhouses or "pit-toilets" are not the most pleasant of facilities to have to visit.

When it comes to your local bar and grill, a messy bathroom can be a common theme. Keeping up on bathroom cleanliness in a busy environment like a bar can be difficult because of high traffic.

Graffiti in public restrooms today is about is a common place occurrence today. Graffiti is difficult to deal with for a number of methods of which the primary difficulty is how difficult it can be to remove from porous surfaces such as concrete and cinder block. There are now chemical coatings that are becoming available that promise to prevent graffiti from being able to adhere to a surface. Called "superhyrophobic" these coatings literally prevent liquids from being absorbed by the material that has been treated with it. These coatings are promising but they are not perfect as durability of the coating can still be somewhat of an issue. The future does look bright though as there will hopefully be a day that graffiti artist will be foiled through nano-technology that literally makes it impossible to tag a wall.

You cannot visit down town Seattle as a tourist without visiting Pikes Place Fish Market. The facility is well known for it's famous fish market but it's public rest-rooms are equally as interesting!
